Air Conditioning Replacement

For many of us, as long as we have cool air, we assume our central air conditioning is working just fine. Little do many homeowners know that they could be spending hundreds of extra dollars every season trying to keep their home sufficiently cooled with systems that are 15 to 20+ years old.

At Air Conditioning Mass, our central AC service technicians have seen some sad-looking systems throughout the North Shore of Massachusetts. We strongly encourage homeowners whose systems are showing excessive signs of wear and tear to opt for a replacement HVAC system. Replacing a system surprisingly doesn’t take very long (most in under 24 hours and all within 48 hours), which means you get to experience comfort quickly. Despite a more expensive initial cost than a repair, replacing your system with a new, energy efficient one will save you money as well as increase your home’s value if you ever decide to sell.

What to Consider When Choosing a Replacement System

  • Price vs Efficiency

Don’t be convinced into thinking that a cheaper central cooling system means it’s better; these lower cost systems could end up only last you a few years. Instead, it’s better to opt for a more modern, advanced system that works well with your home and sign up for a financing plan.
  • Product Reliability

Air Conditioning Mass’ central cooling technicians are trained to install, service and maintain the most trusted HVAC brands, including American Standard. It’s important to invest in a reliable system so that you can get the most for your money and a system that lasts 20+ years.
  • Special Features

Central cooling systems have come a long way in the past few decades. It’s important to determine what you want from your system, including programmable thermostats, timers, SEER number rating and variable speed blowers. Our technicians can also help you determine the best model.

Signs you need to replace your central AC unit

The system is old

The average lifespan of a central air conditioning unit is around 15 years. After that, problems start to arise. Older AC units also use R22 which is a freon-based refrigerant that is being phased out by the federal government. By 2020, manufacturers will no longer produce systems and replacement parts, which will make repairing this type of AC very expensive.

Too much noise & dust

Are constantly replacing your filters and scheduling air duct cleaning services but still notice a large amount of dust collecting in your home? This is a sign that your HVAC ductwork has a leak. Leaks mean your system has to work harder to regulate the temperature of your home, and oftentimes simple repairs won’t fix the underlying issue. Too much noise could also mean that the size of the system does not match the square footage of your home.

Increased repairs & expenses

A few quick fixes to your central AC system now and again is no big deal, but as soon as you start to notice you’ve been calling Air Conditioning Mass for repair work on a regular basis, then it’s probably time to replace your system. Sometimes it’s worth investing in a replacement system which can be less expensive than the total amount spent on repairs. If you also notice a hike in utility bills due to your system, this is another sign it’s time for a new one.

Inconsistent cooling capabilities

Aside from keeping your family comfortable during the hot North Shore summers, your central AC system works to remove excess humidity and moisture. If you notice your home is fluctuating temperatures too much, then this is a sign that you need a replacement system. Your home’s ductwork or equipment may be malfunctioning due to old age. Replacing your system means better moisture control and a healthier living environment for you and your family.
